I am delighted to launch my ‘Year of Reasons to Visit the Moorlands’ this week with the fabulous Alton Towers Resort – an incredibly popular tourist attraction that we are lucky to have right here in the Staffordshire Moorlands and certainly an important ‘Reason’ for people from all over the World to come and visit our local area.
Each week, starting the beginning of June, I will be highlighting a ‘Reason’ or ‘Reasons’ why people should visit this very special area that we live in. It could be local artists, local churches, Towns and Parishes in the Moorlands, some of the fantastic areas and beauty spots we have locally as well as events and festivals just to mention a few.
I welcome the extra £165 million investment in skills training from the Conservative Government and encourage colleges and further education providers across the Moorlands to apply for their share to help get more people into jobs closer to home.
As well as representing Staffordshire Moorlands in Parliament it is a great honour to have been elected and chosen to Chair and Co-chair some important Parliamentary Committees and Organisations.
It is great news that two of our local schools - Biddulph High School and James Bateman Middle School will receive part of the £450 million investment from the Condition Improvement Fund
I welcome the funding from the Government which will see Staffordshire Moorlands benefit from £95,348 to improve our local sports facilities and help more people access them.
As your MP, I was honoured to join members of both Houses of Parliament last week at a reception in Parliament with their Majesties The King and Queen Camilla. I sampled some Coronation quiche and was honoured to be able to shake the King’s hand as he stopped to speak to MPs.
