The Government's long-term economic plan i s working well in Staffordshire Moorlands, as the number of Jobseeker’s Allowance claimants has decreased by 332 in a year. The new number of claimants in the Moorlands is 380: only 1% of the economically active population. That compares with 3.5% in Stoke-on-Trent Central, and 3.1% in Stoke-on-Trent North. Staffordshire Moorlands in the top 100 constituencies in the country for employment: number 83.

“This is yet more good news for the Moorlands! While I'm glad to hear that unemployment has decreased, I know that those who still haven’t got a job are hugely valuable individuals and we need to continue to work hard to get them back into employment”.
Nationally, the number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance or not in employment have fallen too: decreasing by 26,800 between November and December alone. The Office of National Statistics have published their statistics for January 2015, measured from September to November 2014. These statistics show that the number of people in employment is 30.8 million (73%), up 37,000 from the previous quarter and 512,000 from the previous year.
