It’s been a worrying time with the grass fires in the Moorlands and many local residents contacted me with their concerns about “The Lights Fest” lantern festival that was due to take place at Buxton Raceway on 28th July. I raised my concerns with both the organisers and the Police and am pleased that the event has now been cancelled.
As your MP, I am delighted to be invited to visit and attend many different events in Staffordshire Moorlands. I always enjoy visiting local schools and talking to the students and it really was a pleasure to be invited to the Meadows Special School for a tour and a question and answer session with a group of students. I really appreciated their thoughtful questions and would like to thank all the staff and the children for making me feel so welcome.
I was also pleased to join Senior Site Manager, Jamie Law and Sales Executive, Lisa Klieve, at McCarthy & Stone’s brand new Portland Grange Retirement Living development on Portland Street in Leek. I was able to look at the development plans and having donned a hard hat and boots, actually laid a date brick in the foundations to mark the start of construction. It was exciting to hear first-hand about the housebuilder’s latest plans to help meet the housing needs of retirees in Leek and the surrounding areas.
Finally as many of you know, last week saw the 70th Birthday of the NHS and I was pleased to pay tribute to our wonderful NHS staff both in the Moorlands and in the rest of the UK. Thousands of NHS staff are delivering world class healthcare to patients across the country, and I know that local residents will want to join me in recognising their hard work and dedication.
