Staffordshire Moorlands MP Karen Bradley has this week outlined the concerns she has about proposals from Staffordshire County Council to reduce the subsidies provided to rural bus services in the Moorlands.
Karen said:
“I have had a number of local residents contact me recently, concerned about the potential impact that the bus review proposals could have on them. I share their concerns, and I am trying to arrange a meeting with Staffordshire County Council to express my feelings, and to pass on the concerns that local people have raised with me.
“The rural bus services are a lifeline for many people across the Moorlands, and I have raised this with the County Council on numerous occasions over the past few years. Whilst I can appreciate the need for them to make savings, I don’t want to see the complete removal of services which many people in the Moorlands rely on.”
Staffordshire County Council is currently consulting on reducing the subsidies available, and Karen wants local people to make sure they have their say.
She added:
“Although I have no direct influence over the County Council, I will be making my views very clear to them as the Member of Parliament for the Moorlands. I hope that the final proposals will be significantly less disruptive for local people than some of the current proposals would be, and I would urge local residents to take part in the consultation and have their say.”
The consultation is open until midnight on Sun 17 Sept 2017, and is available online at www.tinyurl.com/staffsbusreview
