Mother of two and Staffordshire Moorlands MP, Karen Bradley, has been elected as a vice Chair of the influential All Parliamentary Party Group for Maternity. The Group, now in its tenth year, brings together leading MPs, Peers and professionals in Maternity Services. It has a remit to improve the quality of maternity services and to raise awareness of the contribution maternity care can make to public health, in particular the importance of maternity provision in improving women and babies' health.
One of Karen's first duties as Vice Chair of the Group was to host the All Party Parliamentary Group on Maternity's Summer Reception and Awards ceremony at the Houses of Parliament on Monday 19th July which was sponsored by the parenting Charity, the NCT. The event was attended by 200 guests from maternity services from across the country as well as representatives from the Government. The Staffordshire Moorlands MP met the Health Minister, Anne Milton MP and the Maternity National Award Winners to hear about the innovative work carried out by Maternity Units and to discuss ways in which services could be improved.
Commenting on her election and on hosting the Group's reception, Karen Bradley:
"As a mother and an MP, I am delighted to be a vice Chair of the All Party Group on Maternity and I look forward to supporting the Group in their work. I know that to any of my constituents in Staffordshire Moorlands who are expecting or have just had a baby, maternity issues will be the most important of all. I want to make sure that they are given the prominence they deserve in Parliament. I was delighted to be part of hosting this event and to hear of the innovative work taking place in Maternity Services across the Country."
