Following the very successful event in Leek earlier this year, local MP Karen Bradley was delighted to host another Staffordshire Moorlands Senior Tea Dance, this time in Biddulph.
Approximately 100 people came along to enjoy the tea, cakes and music and the Biddulph Ukulele Group very kindly agreed to play for free again with a fabulous rock and roll theme.
The event was completely free thanks to the sponsorship of Asda, Royal Mail and the Royal Voluntary Service who Karen chose as her partner charity for this event. Karen is grateful to Biddulph Town Council, the Biddulph Youth and Community Zone, Ross Podyma and the RVS, members of the Local People project and all the volunteers who helped to make this such a special event. The raffle raised £110.50 which has been donated to the Royal Voluntary Service.
Karen commented,
“I am committed to helping combat loneliness and elderly isolation in Staffordshire Moorlands. This is such an important issue and I was delighted that so many people came along to enjoy the tea, cakes, singing and dancing.”
“The highlight of the Tea Dance, as always, was the fantastic Biddulph Ukulele Group who provided such wonderful live music. I am very grateful to them and know that everyone who came along, whether dancing or singing or just sitting listening to the music, really enjoyed their performance.”
Toni Lancaster, Project Manager – Local People’s Programme, Royal Voluntary Service said,
“Loneliness and isolation can be very detrimental to our health and wellbeing, particularly in later life. Creating events, like this tea dance, for seniors to get together can make all the difference. Members of the Local People project in Biddulph, which is supported by Royal Voluntary Service and funded by the People’s Health Trust, were delighted to join and help support the festivities. The event was a prime opportunity for them to meet with other people and groups working locally and discuss how we can all work together to strengthen the Biddulph community. We are also very thankful that Karen Bradley has offered any proceeds from the event to be donated to support our work.”
