Moorlands MP, Karen Bradley has today sent a letter to the Prime Minister, signed by other MPs regarding the Impact of Covid on Weddings.
Guidance issued last week implied that bespoke dedicated wedding venues will not be able to hold weddings after 12 April and must wait until 17 May, leading to the bizarre conclusion that it would be legal to marry in a gym, hairdresser or supermarket, but not in a dedicated wedding venue.
Karen immediately asked Ministers for clarity, raised a point of order in the chamber and also asked the Leader of the House during Business Questions for a response as well as a debate on the issue.
“There are many businesses in the Moorlands who rely on weddings for their income, including some of the best venues in the UK and many businesses who make the day for the happy couple, such as florists, photographers and caterers. They all need clarity on this issue. Following my interventions, I have been assured that Ministers are looking into this urgently and will be publishing guidance very shortly. In the meantime, together with other MPs I have written to the Prime Minister.”
