Following Karen's call for Moorlanders to nominate their favourite South Asian restaurant to be entered into the Tiffin Cup, she is pleased to announce that the eatery with the highest number of votes was, for the second time, Qarma of Leek.
She said:
"The Tiffin Cup is a prestigious parliamentary competition that is now in its seventh year. MPs are invited to nominate a restaurant from their constituency, and although there were several suggestions from you about which place I should choose because we are spoilt for choice here in the Moorlands, Qarma pipped the competition to the post and I sent off the nomination yesterday.
"I know from personal experience that Qarma is a great local business that is very popular with its customers and I want to do everything I can to promote it. They came very close to winning the title when they were last nominated for the cup in 2010 and this time I hope to be cheering them on in the grand final!"
Once all the nominations from MPs are in, ten entrants will be shortlisted and invited to a special cook-in at Bellamy's Restaurant in Parliament where the overall winner will be crowned.
Mohammed Ahmed, Proprietor of Qarma, added:
"We are really proud to represent Staffordshire Moorlands in this competition. We reached the top five last time we were entered and we definitely want to win this year!"
