Local MP Karen Bradley has secured an urgent meeting with post office managers, following the announcement that Leek’s main post office will close temporarily from Friday 22 September.
Karen is very concerned that the closure – however temporary – will affect pensioners and those who rely on it for other services.
She said:
“I’ve arranged an urgent meeting with the Post Office to impress upon them the need that people across Leek and the Moorlands have for an easy-to-access main branch in Leek. It’s especially important for pensioners, the vulnerable and others who rely on the post office for vital services.
“Having previously worked hard to secure post offices across the Moorlands, I will be pushing the Post Office to come up with a speedy solution to this. I want to work with them to help them find new premises quickly, so that local residents have access to a main post office branch again as soon as possible.”
The meeting was arranged following a letter from the Post Office, detailing their plans for a temporary closure of the branch, currently located in Waitrose.
Karen added:
“My main concern is for those residents of Leek who rely on this branch to access their pensions and other vital services, who will be hit hard by such a closure – however temporary it is. I will be doing all I can to help the Post Office to re-open the branch elsewhere as soon as possible, in order to minimise the inconvenience to local residents.”
