As the MP for Staffordshire Moorlands, an area with such a rich history, I am proud to celebrate what we love most about our community and our way of life. Last Saturday was no exception, when I had a fantastic day out in Leek.
In the morning I was delighted to present a Légion d'Honneur award to local resident, Rupert Gee, alongside other veterans, friends and family. Like so many others, Mr. Gee is a hero who fought so that our society could thrive as it does today. Indeed the medal is the highest French order of merit for military or civilian action, and pays testament to his bravery.
It was lovely to meet Mr. Gee and I would like to thank his family for inviting me to be part of the presentation, on what was a thoroughly enjoyable occasion.
Then it was time for one of the highlights of the Moorlands calendar, Leek Club Day. It’s always a real honour to take part in such a fantastic celebration of our local heritage and community spirit, and this year did not disappoint. We were joined by 10 churches this year, and the All Saints Church did an outstanding job of leading the procession, alongside newcomers the West Midlands Fire Service band.
The Club Day Parade is a personal favourite of mine and pays real testament to the strength our tight-knit community. I’m already looking forward to next year!
