Karen welcomes the news that the consultation on the closure of Bemersley road recycling centre in Biddulph has been postponed.
Karen said,
The county council have said that they are postponing the consultation about closing the recycling centre in Biddulph. I hope that means they have listened to me and my constituents who have been in touch with me to say the idea doesn’t make sense.
“I made my opposition to the plans clear straight away. We need a site in Biddulph for recycling.”
Mark Winnington, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet member for Economy and Infrastructure, told a cabinet meeting on Wednesday April 16th :
“Since details of this proposed consultation were made public last week, a possible opportunity has arisen at one of the HWRC sites, which could affect the dynamics of the proposal [that would see Bemersley Road close].
“I’m afraid I cannot say more publicly at this point for reasons of commercial confidentiality, but this is an opportunity, which, though it may take some time, merits further investigation.
“In the circumstances I would like to recommend that we do not proceed with the proposal on the Cabinet paper to begin consultation and instead we defer this consultation until such time as this other opportunity has been explored.”
