Weekly Column 28.08.19

I receive a great deal of correspondence about many different policy issues and I would like to take this opportunity to update local residents on two very important Government announcements.
The first is the recent announcement of £1.8 billion for NHS frontline services, helping to deliver more beds, new cutting-edge equipment and additional wards at hospitals across the country.

It’s certainly been rather a wet few weeks in the Moorlands with the rain affecting some of the many Summer events that we hold here such as the Leek Show and also the Garden Party that I had the pleasure to be asked to open at Christ Church in Biddulph Moor. 

Karen joins Royal British Legion to commemorate VJ Day

Moorlands MP, Karen Bradley was pleased to join members of the local Royal British Legion at a Remembrance service at the Nicholson Memorial to commemorate Victory over Japan Day.
Victory over Japan Day also known as VJ Day is celebrated on 15th August each year and is the day which saw Japan surrender during the Second World War, effectively ending it.

We have so many great local shops in Staffordshire Moorlands that contribute to the local economy. My family and I enjoy the wealth of products and produce that we have right here on our doorstep and always try to shop locally and support our local businesses. 

Karen opens Garden Party at Christ Church, Biddulph Moor

Moorlands MP, Karen Bradley was pleased to be asked to open the Garden Party at Christ Church, Biddulph Moor on Saturday.
Despite the rain and having to hold the event indoors, local residents still turned up to show their support and over £1,300 was raised towards the hall makeover appeal.

I am always pleased to be invited to visit schools across Staffordshire Moorlands and really enjoy meeting the children and staff. I am struck by the passion and dedication of the teachers working in our schools and would like to thank them for their hard work.

Karen welcomes announcement of £17.6 million for University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust

Moorlands MP, Karen Bradley has welcomed today’s announcement of an extra £1.8 billion for NHS frontline services, helping to deliver more beds, new cutting-edge equipment and additional wards at hospitals across the country.

Across the country, 20 hospitals will benefit from £850 million of new funding to upgrade outdated facilities and equipment, meaning new intensive care wards, children’s units, and new mental health facilities.

Parliament has broken up for the summer and like other MPs, life switches from voting in Parliament on your behalf, to spending more time at local events. For me there’s been another change. After seven years in government, including three in the cabinet, I returned to the back benches this week.

Karen joins in the fun at the Leek Show

Moorlands MP, Karen Bradley was delighted to attend the Leek Show again this year.

Karen went to the Leek Show before she was an MP and has not missed one since she was first elected.

Parliament has been sitting as normal despite the Leadership election and there have been some important announcements that I would like to share with you.
The landmark Domestic Abuse Bill was introduced last week signalling a major step forward in transforming our response to this deeply harmful crime.
