The Year of the Moorlands Village - Cauldon Lowe.
I was pleased to visit P H Winterton & Son, a leading supplier of animal bedding, sawdust and shavings, based in Cauldon Lowe. I met partner Gary Moores, who is the ‘son’ of Philip Winterton who started the original business back in 1959 when he was having difficulty finding bedding for the agricultural industry.
The business now operates primarily from its site at Moorside, Cauldon Lowe, having moved from their premises in Longsdon in 2008. Since then, the site has grown to incorporate two automated packing lines, a fleet of 15 wagons and 21 staff members. They source sawdust and shavings from all over the country to process and package into bales of bedding for animals including equine, poultry and pets.
