After a busy week in Westminster, it’s always great to be back in the Moorlands and as well as various meetings and surgeries, I was pleased to visit the Werrington Library and Wellbeing Centre again to talk to some of the volunteers and Library staff.
The Werrington Community Volunteers Group do so much for the local community and I was really proud to hear that they have recently been given the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service which is such a fantastic recognition for their dedication and hard work.
I was also amazed to hear that the Werrington Community Volunteers Group and groups under their umbrella have managed to raise over £350,000 making the Library sustainable for the next 10 years.
Combining the Wellbeing Centre with the Library has been such a positive move and the increase in Library membership highlights just how successful their work has been. All of the individual volunteers involved who have donated their time and expertise have made this project such a success and it is great to see the outcome of such strong teamwork and motivation.
It was also great to see Ross Podyma from Sporting Communities in Biddulph and hear about the £398,000 Reaching Communities lottery funding they have received for a project called M-Y-Voice which will be run out in Biddulph, Leek and Cheadle and which will run over 5 years.
Mobile Youth Voice is a young people community project and forums will be set up to get young people to come along and debate and discuss politics and local issues and to talk about their aspirations.
We have so many great voluntary groups here in Staffordshire Moorlands with such amazing volunteers. I would like to say thank you to each and every one of them for the amazing work they do for our community.
