I am delighted to announce that my next Senior Tea Dance will be held in Biddulph on 29th June from 3 – 5pm. The last one that we held in Leek, working with the Biddulph Youth and Community Zone, was enjoyed by all and I have received so many requests for another. My chosen charity this time is the Royal Voluntary Service.
So what happens at my Tea Dances? Well, first and foremost we have the fantastic Biddulph Ukulele Group who will be once again providing such fabulous music and I have heard a rumour that there might also be some rock and roll this time. There will be tea and cakes, listening to the music, singing along to old favourites, dancing if you fancy it, and certainly lots of friendly conversation. It’s an opportunity for elderly residents to come together and have a fun afternoon.
As your MP I know that there are many elderly constituents In Staffordshire Moorlands who suffer from loneliness and elderly isolation and through fantastic charities such as the Royal Voluntary Service and events such as my Senior Tea Dance, I will do all I can to help tackle this important issue.
The Royal Voluntary Service is the largest volunteering organisation in British history and was originally founded in 1938 as the Women’s Voluntary Services for Air Raid Precautions to help recruit women into the ARP movement. The Royal Voluntary Service and their services have evolved since then and today they are committed to drawing older people out of isolation with their community activities, assisting older people looking to get help to become more independent.
