Getting Brexit Done with no more dither and delay.
This is perhaps most important of General Elections and a vote for the Conservatives is a vote for progress and prosperity that allows our country truly to fulfil its potential.
The election has been called in the national interest to resolve the Brexit deadlock. No other candidate in the Moorlands has pledged to honour the result of the 2016 Referendum – a vote for me means getting Brexit done, with no more dither and delay.
With a Conservative majority government we can move on and focus on the other issues that are so important to all of us: the NHS, schools, policing and tackling climate change.
My priorities for Staffordshire Moorlands are:
1. Enhance our NHS
Our NHS is one of Britain’s greatest assets and I am committed to keeping it in public hands, free whenever needed. It is not for sale. With a strong economy under the Conservatives we can properly fund local health services including at Leek Moorlands Hospital. I have been campaigning in Parliament and locally for just that since 2010 and it will continue to be my top priority for you and your family.
2.Proper Funding for Schools
I have supported our local schools in Leek and around the Moorlands for nine years as your MP and visit regularly to see them for myself. Conservatives have already pledged £14bn over the next three years to create more good school places and continue raising standards. As well as getting fairer funding for Staffordshire, I will continue working to secure a sustainable future for our local special needs schools, including Horton Lodge and Cicely Haughton.
3.More Police on the Streets
We have a lower than average crime rate in Staffordshire thanks to our fantastic local police and Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner. They must have the resources to tackle all types of crime. We will deliver 20,000 more police officers and bring in new laws, including on domestic abuse, to give the police the powers that they need to keep us safe.
4.Protecting our Environment
I voted for a carbon neutral UK and Conservatives will protect our environment, including through spending £1bn to accelerate renewable energy projects and lower pollution. We need the right connections to ensure our beautiful Moorlands is also a great place to live: I will continue to apply my experience in government to get better broadband in rural areas. I will work with local councils to get more, clean buses and to protect vital school transport. And I will continue my work to save Leek Show – a great showcase for Moorlands farming.
5.Tackling Loneliness & Isolation
Tackling loneliness and Isolation is a personal priority. I believe that My Senior Tea Dances, “Beyond the Front Door” conference and my Loneliness & Isolation Directory have already made some difference and I will work to provide more opportunities for people to meet and to get help.
With your support I will continue to make sure that the Moorlands’ voice is loud and clear in Westminster and that your concerns are heard and acted on at the highest level.
