Karen Bradley MP was pleased to meet with the Health Secretary, the Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP and Cllr Sybil Ralphs to discuss the Leek Moorlands Hospital.
At the meeting, Cllr Ralphs and Karen were able to explain the issues facing the Leek Moorlands Hospital and gain the support of the Secretary of State to retain the existing services and build on these with the additional service of a Centre of Excellence for Dementia.
Karen said:
“I was very pleased to persuade the Secretary of State to meet me and Cllr Ralphs to discuss this really important issue and to gain his support in what we are trying to achieve.”
Cllr Ralphs said:
“I came away from the meeting very encouraged and now feel more confident that what we are trying to achieve will ultimately cover the needs of the people of Staffordshire Moorlands.”
Healthcare in Staffordshire is facing very severe challenges due to the disastrous PFI bill which was signed off by the previous Labour Government which resulted in £58 million per year being spent paying off debts rather than improving patient care for the residents of Staffordshire.
While in Westminster, Cllr Ralphs was pleased to meet Stoke-on-Trent South MP, Jack Brereton who has joined the campaign along with Karen Bradley and Cllr Ralphs to improve health services in North Staffordshire.
