Moorlands MP, Karen Bradley has raised the issue of school transport with both Staffordshire County Council and in Parliament.
Karen was contacted by many concerned constituents about school transport provision and immediately wrote to the Rt Hon Grant Shapps MP, Secretary of State, Department for Transport and the Rt Hon Gavin Williamson MP, Secretary of State, Department for Education as well as SCC.
She also asked the Leader of the House, the Rt Hon Jacob Rees-Mogg MP for an urgent debate around this and spoke again during the Queen’s Speech debate last Thursday asking for the matter of school transport provision to be looked at urgently.
Karen welcomes the news that SCC have decided to extend the existing offer of free temporary vacant seats, which was due to end at half term, until they receive further guidance.
Karen commented,
“I am pleased to learn of SCC’s decision to extend the free temporary vacant seats. I understand that this a short-term measure until they hear back from the Department of Transport who are reviewing the situation. I am meeting with Ministers responsible and I will continue to monitor this important issue carefully.”
