Moorlands MP, Karen Bradley has welcomed the Prime Minister’s announcement of the Government’s first loneliness strategy, helping to bring about an end to loneliness in our lifetimes.
The cross-Government strategy will help people build connections in communities and raise awareness of loneliness by bringing together health services, businesses, local authorities, charities and community groups.
All GPs in England will be able to refer patients experiencing loneliness to community activities and voluntary services and the Government has confirmed £1.8 million additional funding to increase the number of community spaces.
Karen commented,
“I am committed to helping to fight isolation and loneliness in Staffordshire Moorlands by working together with local charities and community groups and organising events such as my Senior Tea Dances. I really welcome this announcement - loneliness is an important issue in Staffordshire Moorlands that affects people of all ages.”
The first ever Employer Pledge to tackle loneliness in the workplace will also be introduced, and a number of high-profile businesses, including Sainsbury’s, Transport for London, National Grid and the Civil Service, have already pledged to take further action to support their employees’ health and social wellbeing.
