Moorlands MP, Karen Bradley was pleased to visit Boydons Coaches in Cauldon Lowe recently.
Gavin Boydon contacted Karen before Christmas with his concerns over school transport rules.
County councils were unable to allow children to travel on school buses if they were paying passengers unless the buses were fully disability compliant, because the payment for the empty space turns the bus into public transport.
Karen raised the issue with the Leader of the House and spoke again during the Queen’s Speech debate urging the Government to look for some form of exemption in the short term for these county councils, and then to provide support for the county councils to change the contracts.
Karen took the matter up with the Department for Transport and they have provided a temporary fix until July 2020.
Karen commented,
"It was useful to chat to Gavin on one of his coaches and to hear about the difficulties they would encounter in converting the coaches to conform with the disability regulations. I am working together with other Staffordshire MPs to try and find a long term solution to the problem."
