Karen seeks reassurance on temporary closure of Minor Injuries Unit

Following a communication that Leek Moorlands Hospital’s Minor Injuries Unit would be temporarily closed from today, Friday 20 March, Moorlands MP, Karen Bradley immediately contacted the Chief Executive of the Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

The Chief Executive has reassured Karen that this is a temporary closure of the Leek Walk-in Centre and that they are actively planning for Leek to become one of their four hubs with a strengthened Walk-in centre/Urgent Care Centre.

Karen commented,

“I was very concerned to hear the news yesterday that the MIU unit would be closed from today and immediately contacted the MPFT.

“They have reassured me that this is only a temporary measure due to high levels of sickness and the fact that currently, five Advanced Nurse Practitioners are not available because of isolation and/or other sickness.”

The Chief Executive said that the decision has not been taken lightly but, as a consequence, will allow them to maintain minor injuries/walk-in services on the Haywood site, with extended opening hours.
