Karen Bradley was pleased to meet the Education Minister, Michelle Donelan earlier today to discuss funding for residential education provision at special schools such as Horton Lodge and Cecily Haughton.
Karen raised the issue in Parliament recently, explaining how special needs schools across Staffordshire face viability challenges with changes to the way that provision for residential care is funded.
Staffordshire County Council have since said that they intend to continue to fund the residential education provision at those schools, while they develop a Special School Strategy for the county, news that Karen has welcomed.
Karen said,
“I was determined to meet the Minister before Parliament is dissolved and raise this very important issue and was therefore delighted to be able to meet her this morning. I have asked the Minister to look into funding streams and see what can be done so that these very special schools are sustainable for the long-term.”
