Karen Bradley MP and Mo Ahmed from Leek's Qarma restaurant joined the launch of the Newby Teas Tiffin Cup 2010. Qarma was the top restaurant voted for by constituents in Staffordshire Moorlands and Karen nominated them for the cup. A record 73 other MPs also nominated restaurants from their constituencies to find Britain's Best South Asian restaurant. The competition is in aid of World Vision.
The launch was hosted at The Red Fort Restaurant in Central London on Tuesday 14 September 2010. All the regional finalist restaurants were invited to attend to find out about the next stages of the competition.
They will now compete for a place in the Grand Final of the Tiffin Cup 2010 which is to take place on Tuesday 9 November 2010 in the House of Commons. This year's competition will be in aid of World Vision which works globally to speak out for children affected by injustice and poverty.
Karen said:
"It's really exciting for Qarma to be part of the competition. I am sure that it will be a close fought contest, but I'm confident that with the support and enthusiasm of everyone in the Moorlands, they'll get through to the Grand Final.
"We've got a lot to be proud of in the Moorlands and Qarma is a great example. It's a local business that's really popular with its customers - and many of them contacted me to say so. I want to promote all local successes and make sure as many people as possible hear about them. "
Keith Vaz MP, Chair of the Tiffin Club said:
"The UK's love affair with curry has come a very long way since we started the Tiffin Club in 2005. I am delighted the launch was at the Red Fort Restaurant in Central London, one of the first to tickle the British taste buds. This will be a first of many events to find MPs' Best South Asian restaurant in the country and it's all for an excellent cause"
