Karen welcomed over 20 organisations and dozens of visitors to her third Jobs and Skills Fair in Biddulph on Friday. Karen said:
"It was great to get so many organisations who have jobs on offer or can help people find jobs together in one room for job seekers in Biddulph to talk to. We have very low unemployment in the Moorlands but I am always looking for practical ways to help people who are looking for work, so it was great to see people coming to get advice on how to apply and swap details with potential employers at the Jobs Fair.”
Unemployment is less than 2% in Staffordshire Moorlands – so over 98 people out of every 100 have work. But Karen recognises the challenge for those looking for work, whether switching jobs or finding work after having been unemployed. The Jobs and Skills Fair brought jobs clubs and agencies that know about other vacancies as well as groups that help people to change career or set up their own business and skills, plus training providers who can help acquire or improve the skills to start that new job together in the Victoria Centre in Biddulph to advise local job seekers.
Karen added:
“it was great to see organisations like Support Staffordshire helping people with writing their CV and to see colleges and training providers advising on apprenticeships. We had scores of visitors and I am sure the jobs fair will help keep unemployment down in our area.”
