B is for BRIDGES........
One of the things I enjoy most about travelling around Staffordshire Moorlands is discovering the historic structures that tell the story of our communities. Basford Bridge No. 44 in Cheddleton is a reminder of the important role the Caldon Canal played in shaping local industry and connecting communities throughout the Churnet Valley. Although it is now a peaceful spot enjoyed by walkers and boaters, bridges like this were once vital links in a busy transport network.
It is wonderful to see these pieces of our heritage still standing and continuing to serve local people today.
