Karen joined hundreds of walkers on the First Mile To War March, commemorating the first mile that the men of the Leek C Battery marched from their barracks in Alma Street to Ashbourne, on their way to the Western Front in August 1914.
Karen said:
"There have been so many special tributes in Staffordshire Moorlands and this was another imaginative way to pay tribute to the 419 people who lost their lives in the Great War. It was a very special occasion and I was pleased to see such large and enthusiastic crowds.
"The names of all 419 are on the Nicholson Memorial and they are familiar local names shared by many in the crowd. The names live on but we must remember those who fell, particularly in this time of such uncertainty in the world."
