Karen has welcomed a new manifesto commitment by the Conservatives to extend the Right to Buy to the tenants of housing association properties.
She said:
"I'm really pleased that this new pledge means 3,630 families in the Moorlands will have the opportunity to buy their housing association home. It isn't fair that up until now this privilege was only available to council house tenants.
"As a Conservative, I want more people who work hard and save up to be able to enjoy the security of owning their own home, and that means helping people renting in the private sector to buy too, so I am delighted that our manifesto also pledges to extend Help to Buy to cover another 120,000 homes, continue the Help to Buy mortgage guarantee until the start of 2017 and the Help to Buy equity loan until at least 2020, as well as introducing a new Help to Buy ISA from Autumn 2015.
"These are all positive measures that reward people who want to work hard and get on."
Homes that are sold under Right to Buy will be replaced by new affordable homes, and by requiring councils to sell their most expensive council houses as they become vacant, £1 billion will be made available to bring derelict, brownfield land back into use for housing.
