Volunteers Required for Footpath in Leek
Conservative Action Team Looking for Workers
This week, the Leek Conservative Action Team saw their hard work on the Ladydale footpath put to good use as pupils returned to school after the summer break.
The team had spent a weekend in July upgrading the footpath – clearing debris and overgrown weeds and then laying a tough gravel surface – to create a safe walk to school route for the pupils at All Saints First School. This work followed the effort that the team put in back in October last year to upgrade the footpath from Fynney Street down to the end of Ashenhurst Way.
Karen Bradley, the Conservatives Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Staffordshire Moorlands said:
“When we took this project on I don’t think any of us thought that we could make such a big difference to the footpath. I use the path myself and it’s lovely to be able to walk from Southbank Street down to the Ashenhurst area without going along the main road.
Since our work in July, the school has fitted gates to the rear of the playing fields so that the pupils can get full use from the footpath.”
Karen is pictured with pupils from the school who are using the footpath now that the new term has started.
The Team also announced that they would start work on another footpath in the town in September. The footpath at Woodcroft will give pupils at Westwood a walk to school route. The work will take place on 14, 15 and 16 September and the Team are looking for volunteers who can help and anyone is welcome.
Karen added:
“We have always planned to do more projects like the Ladydale path and the Woodcroft one is ideal. We’ve learnt a lot about path building in the last few months and I hope that, using this knowledge, we can do all the work in the one weekend.
We are always looking for other projects and any ideas that people have for tasks that would make a difference in their area would be gratefully received. Other Conservative Action teams have improved their local areas by painting, updating or cleaning up all sorts of amenities. Let us know and we’ll see if we can help. It is amazing what you can achieve in a short time to improve everyone’s lives just by giving up a few hours over a weekend.”
Volunteers who can help on 14, 15 and 16 September should contact Cllr Paul Chauveau on 07973 200200.
