Post Office Closures
Campaign Continues
Local Conservatives continued their campaign to try to stop Post Office closures across the Moorlands this weekend. A public meeting has been organised for Friday 11 April - 7pm in the Churnet Room in Moorlands House - and campaigners are continuing to gather signatures and encourage local people to respond to the consultation process.
Karen Bradley, Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Staffordshire Moorlands, said: "We would ask local people to sign our petition, which will be presented to Gordon Brown in Downing St, and to respond to the consultation process themselves. We understand from the Post Office that a petition will be counted as one representation and will carry no more weight than an individual letter. Hence we are urging everyone to write individually to the Post Office. We will be delivering consultation representation letters to local households over the next few days which explain how to respond. It’s a freepost address, so there's no cost to people to respond.
I am outraged that the Moorlands have once again got a raw deal. Six Post Offices are closing across Staffordshire Moorlands, out of a total of 32 in Staffordshire. That's nearly one fifth of the total, but we make up far less than one fifth of the population of Staffordshire. And that's before we start to look at the neighbouring Post Offices that are closing used by Moorlands residents, like Mayfield, Mow Cop and Brindley Ford. That's why it is so important that people know how to make their voices heard about how badly we are being treated."
Anyone wanting a copy of the representation letter should contact Karen at 30 Russell Street, Leek.
